Went to a Baxter 05 planning meeting tonight held by Refugee Action Collective. Got through a lot of business as per usual. A very efficient bunch. It’s just so good to be part of that.
The general population (for whatever reason) often view political activists as a disorganised bunch of crazy folk thinking up half-baked ways to get attention. This is far from the experience here. Someone from Queensland Ambulance was there tonight doing plenty to further the strategic discussion. The meetings are not ‘fun’, but they’re relaxed an jovial and that’s a type of fun for me. However, they’re also serious and deliberate with an agenda, a facilitator and consensus decision making. That means stuff gets done – which is important to me too.
They’re easy-going folk and everyone seems unflappable. Amazing really.
