A lot of people I speak to in my travels ask me where I grew up.
I was born in Corinda, spent some time in Ashgrove but for most of my childhood and as a young adult I lived in Brisbane’s west – in Redbank Plains and Sinnamon Park.
Despite a brief stint at Enoggera in Brisbane’s north, I’ve always considered myself a ‘westie’.
Now that I live in Brisbane’s east and particularly as I’m running as a candidate here, each day I learn more about bayside and eastern suburbs living – and being a water-baby, I’m loving every minute of it.
Australian folk singer, Xavier Rudd, sums my feelings up quite nicely I think:
Farewell to the west now
My mind is open to the east
To all the new faces, new minds
And things to see
But I am alone here
And my heart at times it weeps
I will see you through the colours
As the sun sinks in the sea
I’ve got a lot of new faces to meet during my campaign in Bonner, but I’m enjoying it so far.
